Andor Technology was revealed today as winner of the Rising Star category of the 2008 Cathay Pacific Business Awards.
First introduced three years ago, in 2005, these annual awards are designed to acknowledge and celebrate UK business dynamism and success in Hong Kong and China. Andor Technology was selected from a pool of entries from a range of sectors including design, manufacturing, professional services and marketing. Belfast based Andor Technology is a company that specialises in the development and production of high performance digital camera and light measuring technology.
The achievements of the winning organisations were recognised by Cathay Pacific’s Chief Executive, Tony Tyler in an awards luncheon held at China Tang Restaurant, London attended by leading business figures from the UK, Hong Kong and China.
The Rising Star Award acknowledges business dynamism and success by small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) operating in Hong Kong and China. Andor Technology was one of the first Northern Irish companies to establish a direct presence in China. They then expanded their distribution network from a Beijing-centric base to nationwide, with the appointment of Titan Electro-Optics (TEO) as their exclusive representative in Hong Kong and China in May 2007. As a result sales in China and Hong Kong have more than trebled since 2006.The judging panel felt that for a UK company to achieve success in such a competitive field was testament to the very spirit of dynamism worthy of winning this award.
Aislinn Rice, Sales Director at Andor Technology said, "Winning the Rising Star Award is a great result for Andor Technology. Since we expanded our business into China and developed a local partnership we’ve seen our sales more than treble. We view China as a very important market for our products and we're delighted that our foresight has paid dividends and led to us winning this very prestigious award."
Philippe de Gentile-Williams, General Manager Europe, Cathay Pacific Airways, London said, "Each year the entries for the Cathay Pacific Business Awards are of a very high standard. This year the judges were extremely impressed by the quality and diversity of the entrants. It is inspiring to see just how many UK organisations are choosing to make the most of the business opportunities available in the Chinese market. Cathay Pacific Airways has a long history of facilitating links between businesses trading in the UK and China. The Cathay Pacific Business Awards provide a way for us to recognise and celebrate the ongoing growth of the relationships forged between the UK, China and Hong Kong."
