Competition Rules for the Andor Insight Awards

Qualification

• The Andor Insight Awards are open to all users of Andor Technology plc (“Andor”) systems and products with the exception of employees of Andor and their relatives. This includes all Bitplane software and Mosaic® and Micropoint® products.
• Submissions can include images, graphics, spectra and movies and must be acquired using Andor systems or products as defined in the Annex.
• There is no limit on the number of submissions per entrant.
• Entrants from all techniques and applications are accepted.

Entry Submission

• Entries must be submitted: Online through the Andor Insight Awards website: www.andor.com/insight.
  
  - If not at all possible then offline via your local Andor or Bitplane sales contact – who must receive a USB memory device containing labelled entry files (labels must match file name as given on the signed entry form) and a signed entry form - download here.
  
• Maximum file size is 20 MB (megabytes) per file;
• Files must be submitted in one of the following electronic file formats:
• Images Movies: We aim to accept all file types.If you have any problems uploading then please e-mail insight@andor.com

Judging Criteria

• Entries will be judged on the following two criteria:
• Scientifically Captivating - The judging panel will rate the entries according to how captivating and meaningful they are from a scientific viewpoint, as well as from the entrants’ description (in box 2 of the entry form).
• Visually Stunning - Perspective, aesthetic attractiveness and uniqueness

Prizes

• Andor will provide the winner of the Physical Sciences category and the winner of the Life Sciences category with an Apple iPad 2 each.
• The panel of judges will select the winners from a shorlist within each category.
• Andor reserves the right to specify the exact model of the iPad 2 at such a time that the winner has been notified.

Important Dates

• To qualify for prizes all entries must be submitted no later than midnight (12:00am) BST on Tuesday 31 May.
• Prize winners will be notified by 31 July 2011 by email and will be announced on www.andor.com.

General Conditions

• Andor reserves the right to change the category into which a submission has been made.
• The Andor Insight Awards are void where prohibited by law.
• In the event of a tie after the intial judges assessment of the shortlisted entries the judges will review both images to determine a final winner.
• You will retain all rights to any entry you submitted – including ownership if applicable – other than those rights licensed in the next two bullet points.
• By entering the Andor Insight Awards competition, you hereby grant Andor Technology plc and anyone employed by or affiliated with Andor Technology a non-exclusive, non-revocable, worldwide and royalty-free license to reproduce, distribute, publicly display or perform the entry you submitted.
• By entering the Andor Insight Awards competition, you hereby grant Andor Technology plc and anyone employed by or affiliated with Andor Technology the right to use your name and location and those of the organisation where the entry was acquired for publicity purposes, without compensation.
• With your entry you acknowledge that you do not violate or infringe the copyright of other persons or entities
• You also certify that you hold the full rights to grant such permission as specified above.
• All images submitted by Andor customers and used for promotional purposes will be accompanied by an accreditation to the individual/organisation/research group where the entry was acquired.
• Once an image is submitted into the Awards it cannot be withdrawn.
• By participating, you agree to these terms and conditions and to the decisions of Andor Technology plc and the judges which are final and binding in all respects.
• Failure to comply with and accept all of the preceding rules will disqualify any entry.

Disclaimer

• Andor Technology plc is not responsible for any technical issues which result in the failure of any entry to be received by Andor or any injury or damage to entrants or any other person's computer related to or resulting from participation or downloading any materials related to the Andor Insight Awards.

Terms of Use

• Persons found tampering with or abusing any aspect of the Andor Insight Awards or the Andor website, as solely determined by Andor, will be disqualified and Andor reserves its right to seek damages from any persons to the fullest extent of the law.
• By entering the Andor Insight Awards, participants agree to release, discharge and hold harmless Andor, their respective affiliates, subsidiaries, retailers, agencies and their respective officers, directors, employees, retail dealers and agents, from any injury, claim, loss or damages of any kind that may arise out of participation in the Andor Insight Awards or out of the acceptance, use, misuse or possession of Prizes.

Jurisdiction

• The Andor Insight Awards is conducted in English (which will be given its everyday ordinary meaning) and any and all disputes will be resolved in the appropriate courts in Northern Ireland, exclusively, and subject to the laws of Northern Ireland. Should there be a conflict between the laws of Northern Ireland and any other laws, the conflict will be resolved in favour of the laws of Northern Ireland.
